This was a different experience – Microsoft was helpful.  I kept having some security updates fail on my computers so I br0ke down as asked them for help.  I got on a chat with a Microsoft person and they were able to fix my computer.  It turns out the .NET framework was corrupted and it was updates to that were failing.  I was concerned about not applying these security updates so I wanted this fixed.  I learned from what they did and was able to fix it on my other computer.

What’s fascinating is that they were able to remote into my computer to fix this.  This whole concept of being able to remote is a great upgrade from the old days of fixing.  I can remote into my computer at work, I’ve tried to GoToMyPC at home and now I use LiveMesh (as it’s free) also as a remote desktop.  A few weeks ago I actually used my palm centro as a modem and the remoted into my computer at home in order to get some work done.  The microsoft rep used some Office product in order to share the computer remotely – there’s just a ton of these products that makes life so much simpler (trust me if you’ve ever had to talk to someone over the phone for stuff like this – quite maddening).

So now I’m just re-installing Quickbooks as I think that was somehow connected to the .NET problem….
