Sometimes it’s very difficult to balance your needs vs. that of your client. For anyone in small business you know there is never enough time to do everything you want/need to do. It’s a hard choice sometimes between continuing to work on their stuff vs. stopping to take some time for your own stuff. In fact as I write this I had to pull away from working on a client’s website – as I still had another task to do for them (even though I worked on things last night and today for them).
In fact for years my business website was pretty pathetic – I never seemed to get around to working on it. My personal website (andrewluvtrains.com) was OK – but again it was pretty static. It was only recently I’ve been doing anything with my business website – as I decided to test out some items. That’s what’s working now – as by working on this website it helped me learn more to help them. Especially as this pushes out to my Facebook page and Twitter account.
This is actually something of a Covey principle – the P/PC balance (Production / Production Capability) – of basically not burning yourself out in order to continue to be productive. It’s doing thinks like training, planning, etc. – that makes things better. It’s taking time to read a book and learn something from it, to learn a new skill, etc. The other thing I decided was that I needed to blog in order to practice writing – as my skills aren’t what they used to be (anybody practically can spell anymore?). So for me, this blog is an exercise in doing things to improve myself – not just for someone else.
